If your child is struggling, I would love to work with your family overcome those challenges. I combine a client-centered approach, where you set the goals and serve as the expert on your child, with evidence-based interventions tailored to your child’s unique needs. I have a passion for working with children and families, combined with more than a decade of experience in children’s mental health. This includes working with teens and young adults!
Because children often don’t have words for their feelings and inner thoughts, traditional “talk therapy” may not be a good fit for their problems. I am trained to work with children at their developmental level, helping them express their unique needs and thoughts to address the underlying problem. Since children learn through play, I often use play therapy strategies to help them learn new skills, resolve inner conflicts, improve self-esteem, and encourage independence and self-exploration. I have also been trained in Parent-Child Interaction Therapy, which equips me with well-researched tools to help parents deal with behavior problems and improve family relationships. For older children and teens, we may use more cognitive-behavioral strategies, to help them develop new skills and ways of thinking.
I have experience working with a wide range of childhood issues, from anxiety and depression to anger and defiance. I have supported families through difficult life experiences such as divorce, loss, deployments, and incarceration, and help children heal from trauma, whether they have experienced many years of abuse and neglect or a single traumatic event.
